Hotel Security Career – Tales From the Field
For those of you considering a career in security work, here is a small portion of the life of my own experience:
I security jobs worked as my first career out of high school. This allowed me to work my way through higher education and maintain a revenue stream coming. Job security is usually the best option for that type of situation, you certainly do not want menial labor, which pays better than most jobs for unskilled level, and if you get to the bottom right you can bring your homework with you. Most safety supervisors do not care if you bring books and homework with you – at least know that they will not sleep at work!
However, since it excels in my memory as you can not bring to the job was the position of hotel. I took this round for most of the year, before I turn to a more tranquil. The hotel was known throughout the security company as his "job action." Boy, was once!
First, it was only two blocks from Disneyland in California, so we had guests throughout the year. He then had a formal restaurant attached, which had been one of the most happening in the metropolitan area of Orange County, to the current owners bought out the chain. Now, the restaurant was more of a sports bar and grill. Then we had dinner / dance halls, which reserves all year for conventions, receptions, group events, and everything from school dances to weddings. Now, in addition, add 1,000 rooms in three buildings, plus a pool and jacuzzi.
There was never a quiet moment. My first duty on arrival in the night shift was to close the pool at 10 PM. The pool was usually full of a group as three busloads of tourists who just arrived half an hour ago from Arizona (summer) or Minnesota (winter) and just get a full-scale festival, when the guard comes out to put everyone out and locked. If I was running for a popularity contest, which blew my chances there, and the night had just begun. Diplomatically to convince 50 people to leave the pool was an exercise in crowd control I've won every night. We to do this because the sound echoes between the buildings and, if not close the pool would have 500 people complaining that he could not sleep!
Then I could be an event happening or three in the three banquet rooms. These can only be finalized, but the coordinators of the event seemed to have a perverse thrill of creative different groups booking banquet rooms that came out in the hallway and shock. A Muslim wedding in the Banquet Room 1, a Christian child Awana club event in the room hall 2, and a goth / punk alternative lifestyle singles dance in 3 rooms, for example. I imagined the event coordinators cackling and rubbing their hands in glee "We'll see how the guard is fighting these three!" Not a few of my calls were to break up fights, especially when it came to alcohol.
If I successfully got the pool and patio with dumped and banquets to a peaceful conclusion, then it was time to see the bar at the nearby restaurant at 2am. The waiter I need to hand in case anyone is hilarious. They might get rowdy if we had to call a cab to go home when they prefer not to leave the car behind, but in Overall everything went well and I can hardly even found people spent in the bushes.
Then the real business of patrolling the hotel through the night began. If I was lucky, we had a fairly quiet group of people whose main motivation was really sleep at night. If not, could cope with noisy customers everyone complained, rooms full of kids jumping out the window on the third floor of the envelope at the chain link yard closed down, unrequited lovers and the controversies that took in the lobby, and the occasional university Kegger. Very rarely, we had to drug traffickers, who send someone to reserve a room, then pull around the back, download your products, and do business in the city overnight. They were a little hard to ignore the people coming and out all night and the pressure box that shows a phone call every second at 3 am.
Around 5:30 the boxes began. They were persons willing to go out and catch a flight out of town, back home, or to the next stop. This wave of activity would be treated just by the reception staff and particular the assistance of maintenance of the road … , and rounding up the stock last night. Incidentally, the hotel staff was always around, so I had a lot back-up ", and indeed, at least in what concerns my fellow workers, who were wonderful people.
I was really in a first name basis with the police in the city, many times I called to tackle the most problematic guests. During my time there, I busted five rings drug, failed attempt two steals, caught three homeless people sneaking to the property (one of them in the jacuzzi at 3 in the light of the windows looking down on courtyard), Busted dozen underage drinking parties, and disrupted countless couples in your car in our large, long dark, parking friendly, where noted that maybe what they were doing is not very good for families with children home from Disneyland.
No, this is not a typical security work at all. Most jobs Night Watch are a sleepy factory complex where his most difficult problem is to keep awake and their busiest time is when you run clock hit around to make rounds. But this is only an example to show … how goes wild!
