Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art
Arts & Culture: Some critics might say Jasper Cropsey "The Backwoods of America" € "Part of Growing Crystal Bridges American Art Collection â €" is a symbolic icon for billionaire Alice Walton's passion for the arts.
Designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie, and funded by billionaire Alice Walton, the 50 million dollars (this is only the cost installation and does not include works of art) Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is scheduled to open in 2009 in Bentonville, Arkansas. It was two years ago this month that the daughter of Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart has announced controversial.
The museum will house a permanent collection of signature works of American artists along with galleries dedicated to art and regional artists including Native American art, but oddly enough, this monumental task is not as happy.
The depth of the museum is indicated in the purchase the auction house Christie's America in New York in 2004, Charles Wilson Peale portrait of George Washington for $ 6.1 million. This causes some critical to swell, believing that works of art are torn from their own backyard. No need to worry, collaborating with other institutions will be an important priority of Crystal Bridges, even before the museum opens, and they can also rest easy knowing Bentonville does not have an airport.
A number of works from the permanent collection of Crystal Bridges is already on loan to various museums throughout the United States, including: The Hudson River School masterpiece "Kindred Spirits" which was loaned to the National Gallery in Washington, DC for display public from 2005 to 2007. He is currently on loan to the exhibition of the Brooklyn Museum by the same name featuring the works of Asher B. Durand. The same exhibition will also travel to Washington DC and San Diego.
Portrait of Thomas Eakins' Professor Benjamin H. Rand is currently on loan to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Jasper Cropsey majestic representation of life in early American frontier, "The Backwoods of America" is now featured in the American galleries of The Nelson-Atkins in Kansas City, and the group's largest surviving American Colonial portrait, pictures of Levy-Franks family, is currently on loan to Jewish Museum in New York City. Also, the distinctive painting George Washington (The Constable-Hamilton Portrait) by the American painter Gilbert Stuart is currently in theaters Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
While the puff puffers, Walton others admire the passion and dedication to the arts and to recognize the fact that Crystal Bridges will be the best American Art Collection, once it is established. The collection is directed by Bob Workman, formerly associated with the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas.
Once completed, the museum complex will occupy about 100,000 square feet of gallery, library, assembly and offices, an auditorium with 250 seats inside, space for outdoor concerts and public events, gallery rooms suitable for large receptions, as well as sculpture gardens and walking trails. Walton is the construction of the "American dream" of 100 pristine, wooded acres his family owns Bentonville.
