Growth Timber Reviews

How to take care of wooden bridges, cladding, garden sheds, the furniture stores, etc. href = "http://www.furnitureinfashon.net"> coffee tables, TV stands – The proper way. Where can I turn for advice appropriate? There are many products on the market to protect and beautify wood etc., of good and less good. There are also many variations in the advice offered, some good and, unfortunately, much worse.
Every day I meet the more specialist after-effects of all these products and bad advice out there under my care work for wood / Convenience Store. It is remarkable how often I meet people who have been misled, misguided, or simply taken the tin first thing they might have seen on TV even if it was totally inappropriate for their needs. It is very difficult to find specialized staff in stores who make the effort to acquire an adequate database of knowledge in which they are involved in whatever it is! Curtains, electronic gadgets, Woodcare protection etc. When you come to one of these 'treasures' walk do not you just feel so happy that you made? Yes, they are there but we could to see more of them. Anyway, back to the wood, taking care of it and keep it looking better for many years. Before you can say he or she must first learn both theory and practice the stuff of real life. Over the last decade with Igoe International Ltd, have invested most of my work time to learning more of the care experts leading timber from Scandinavia, USA, and elsewhere, while dealing with hands-on site on many cock-ups, all kinds of wooden buildings bridges, marinas, yachts, sailboats, cladding, garden furniture hardwood, fences, log cabins etc., the results of poor advice and so on and so forth.
Here are my findings and some practical advice that sense, I hope you will save and / or your friends or relatives of one of the aforementioned cock-ups and their associated costs in terms of money and all the added frustration and stress. My top of the pile of "what exists in Woodcare should be a pile of wood products care the stable OWATROL. Underdogs some big brand names they may be, but I think they now unparalleled. A division of Flood Company, Ohio, United States, one of the leading American bridge wood care products manufacturers, international OWATROL covers a full range wood products the highest quality of care. They are not the cheapest mind you, but I think they would be safely described as the best, hard earned money can buy, and given the fact that your wood is beautiful is not cheap, why skimp on a few pennies in order to obtain the job done right first time? In my travels, I do know is that more and more installers of deck quality, both in the
UK & Ireland recommend the same system I am about to speak here today. There is a complete family of products to suit different situations needs and tastes.
Some key issues to consider before deciding what to do with your wood outside if new, old, treated or untreated, etc.:
1. Wood New – What should be done?
2. What do you want your wood to look like when finished?
3. Has it been treated by you or by a previous owner before?
4. Was it always treated wood?
1. New Wood – which should be done?
Lets go step by step and start from beginning with new wood.
FACT: The first year is the worst year for all new exposed wood!
Regardless of whether your deck is pressure treated or not, it is still possible that the new wood will crack, split, warp or cup.
The pressure treatment is mainly intended to prevent rot and decay, not divide, etc.
New wooden bridge has often mill glaze (a shiny finish caused by a combination of planing of wood, wood oils, resins, etc. at the manufacturing), which prevents the proper penetration of practically any finish whatsoever. The net effect of this mill glaze etc is that the pores of timber was closed by the planer blades and may take several months before they become open again properly or sufficiently open to allow the wood is treated properly. The only thing that has a success rate very high in getting that wood even rainwater is good old! After be some time left on the wood it will receive for the timber.
In other words, you are wasting your money to apply any regular non-finish standard as spots, cheap oil bridge etc, probably because they do not penetrate well and take off or wear off in no time. Some uninformed people know that you must leave your wood to weather with nothing on it for several months and does not apply any what. This advice is both right and wrong. It is right to some extent because almost no treatment in the pores of the new wood – hence the idea is, wait until the pores open fully.
This advice is wrong because, pending the water inside the timber and will do damage, such as splitting, cupping, warping, etc. The Western Red Cedar Association in North America says so new cedar should not be left without protection this very reason.
New Wood "The Myth"
"This wood is pressure treated and need not be supported"
This type of observation had been misused by some well-intentioned but seriously misinformed vendors or installers wood deck. The fact is, pressure treatment primarily supports issues wood rot and does not deal with water and sun related problems that are larger "visible" problems you'll likely never met.
A good analogy would be the Paint Job on a very expensive new car, is not look good? Is it not need to be treated, washed and polished from time to time to maintain it and keep it looking great? Leave mercy our weather, dirt etc. and it will not long remain looking good! The same thing applies to your new wood or wood (the one you prefer call) … left to itself, it will soon look like a pile of old pallets not to mention the damage to its structure fiber!
Back to the new wood, and what to do with.
Regardless of whether it is pressure treated or not (pressure treated wood can generally be identified by a greenish tint) on new wood should be protected against damage and algae etc if you want it hard, look good, more importantly, safe in the event of a deck.
OWATROL make a product specifically designed to treat new wood, called SEASONITE.
SEASONITE a treatment depth of penetration, is applied as soon as possible after installing your deck, siding, garden furniture wooden, shed or other structure of any new wood outdoors. It is wetter than water, and is found in these hermetically sealed pores where very little else bar water entering
Seasonite job is to weather the new wood "in a controlled manner ie it allows excess moisture to escape gradually from the new wood in the past six months or more, while at the same time preventing NEW moisture or water from entering the wood.
Splits and cracks, etc., generally occurs when changes in weather, sunshine to rain to sun ETC, which causes the damp wood to expand and then suddenly crack and so on.
Have you ever 'hear your deck creak' after a downpour of rain followed by some sun?
Why does it do that? The wood absorbed the water and once the rain stopped and the sun comes out, the coup, dare I say – the heat causes wood to swell or develop, and that's where the damage is done, cracking, deformation, etc. Common sense. It's a real shame to see beautiful wooden planks and expensive by cracks and fissures big ugly everywhere.
SEASONITE is not a product designed to make a big impression on your visual sense is his main job is just to protect your wood in its first year and the most vulnerable, leaving it well prepared for the next phase protection where the shadow, color etc comes in. Another huge advantage is that Seasonite contains a fungicide which prevents the growth of algae, etc. (This causes bridges to become slippery and can be dangerous when wet).
2. What do you want your wood to look like when you completed?
(2a) That Look Greyed silver?
Depending on how you want your wood to look forward, namely continuation of this look beautiful just installed, or what some people like that look silvery gray that is the way cedar decking, siding, etc. ends by if untreated. If you want a silvery weathered, All you need do is apply a layer of year Seasonite any or both. It is a very simple and can be done in no time with a simple pump garden type sprayer or even a roller or brush etc.
This is not a dirty work and anyone with the slightest possibility of tinkering can do it easily. The Seasonite will prevent water 'new' / Moisture to penetrate, and keeps the wood inside in good condition while at the same time the weather outside and takes this look weathered silver. So you get the look you want, but without leaving your wood go to rack – and ruin.
(2b) The New Look natural wood or different shades? (Most Popular)
If your preference for this beautiful, natural, recently sawn wood look which I propose the following decision. After seasoning has taken place, ideally have been treated with Seasonite once installed, and several months (6 +), alteration controlled place, your deck is now ready for the next phase of treatment.
Clean & restore the original color
Clean it.
Even if you used Seasonite as mentioned above, when the wood is new, it fade and become gray and catch a bit of dirt, droppings birds, water stains, etc. So before you do anything, the bridge or whatever, must be cleaned, and color original natural wood fully restored with Net-Trol, a revolutionary product and green. It also removes any remaining Seasonite from Wood, necessary before the next phase of work.
Here's how.
All you have to do is wet the wood thoroughly, apply a mixture part Net-Trol to about three parts (the less water over the water mix) and apply with something like a broom clean, or whatever is handy. After about 10 minutes, it is a good idea to gently agitate the applied cleaner with something like a brush Nylon bristles only to help "it works" in the pores etc. After about 30 minutes rinse thoroughly with clean water. If you are doing this job a sunny day, dry and Net-Trol cleaning process dries out prematurely, just moisten the surface with a fine mist of a garden hose to keep it moist, because the cleaning action stops working if it dries. If the timber was really dirty or damaged, you may need repeat of last year. (You can also see info on the powerful PrepDeck below) you will also see a big difference in the appearance of wood and color come home immediately. When the wood dry cleaned it will illuminate to some extent, but it will be fine as it has not new.
Now, to beautify and protect your wood … oiling.
I recommend waiting at least three days with good conditions drying after cleaning above has been done before attempting to apply a protective layer. Ideally, 3 to 4 days of good drying should allow your wood is completely dried out making it receptive to subsequent treatment.
This job is made easier by using software very easy to use product called TEXTROL reasonably competent and everyone with his hands can do. (Take all precautions like wearing rubber gloves, etc.)
Textrol is an anti-UV, the high penetration of clean oil that goes into the wood rather than on it, leaving a finite Nice mat.
There are two versions of ready-stained Textrol called Golden Oak and Rustic Oak.
For the more adventurous, the Textrol clearly can not be stained (by the paint store) in a nice selection of semi-transparent colors of warm browns cool blues with the Textrol as either a yellow base or clear.
How to apply: The first application (only) should be two layers, one shortly after another. Carry your project into manageable sections, say must go back and apply your second coat before the arrival of the first layer 'up' Depending on the porosity of the wood, your first layer should be absorbed into a half-hour or less. If you wait too long and the first layer is in place, Your second layer will be difficult to enter, which means that the wood will not have enough "drink". The domino effect of this is that the protection will only last half as long as it should. If you work
on a bridge and a few "accumulation" occurs from excessive Textrol, simply wipe It off with a clean cloth to avoid "skinning". (See Re TIP doing Decks)
Textrol also contains a fungicide to prevent algae etc. bay, especially in the case of a bridge, helping to keep them from becoming slippery when wet. Textrol not peel or lift and can be coated without sanding is a great advantage. If you have a bridge made of the least expensive pressure treated pine or spruce, etc. (often grooved), the Textrol Rustic Oak will bridge more like a teakwood. It depends what stuff you have and your preference is.
Cedar Textrol beautiful with clear, it enhances the grain and has a beautiful appearance. It would be best described as resembling clean, new, cedar wet. The Golden Oak is a little darker and you may look like that too.
Another point to consider is that both tinted versions last longer than clear because they have more pigment in them and they resist UV rays better.
Textrol (clear) way, can last, when properly applied, from1.5 to 3 years depending on its position relative to the sun. The less exposed to direct sunlight is the longest duration and vice versa.
Textrol is Waterproof (allows wood to breathe) and, ideally, should be covered with one coat without sanding all the twelve to eighteen months, depending on exposure sun. As with Seasonite, Textrol is very easy to use if you have a pump sprayer, use it, or you could use a clean brush, brush or roller. A point to remember is, when the wood starts to become gray looking You say he needs more oiling with Textrol.
NOTE: We Tropitech have recently introduced a new hard wearing, durable, acrylic wood finish also by the same suppliers OWATROL – also worth a look, see Web http://igoe.ie/products/needalonglasting.htm Waiting for more information. I am adding pictures and more on Tropitech soon.
3. Was it treated by you or by a previous owner before?
You need to know what you're dealing with before you can actually restore or treat. Maybe your deck or exterior wood has been treated previously by you or by a contractor and you do not remember what, maybe the wood was inconsistent with the coating inappropriate, or they have been applied in the wrong direction? Or maybe you've recently moved in this house and external joinery should do, but you do not have any idea what to do to restore it? Important that you address this issue.
Start at the beginning and do a simple test on different parts of the forest.
Wait until the wood is dry, apply a few drops of water here and there (gently). If the drop of water seeps into the wood after about 5 to 10 minutes (maybe a little longer in the hardwood) that you indicates that your wood is porous and can be treated after a relatively easy cleaning with Net-Trol. (See Clean & Restore above) other hand, if the drop of water stays there and does not soak in, but sits there on the wood, he tells you that there is something like a previous layer (which may or may not be clearly visible) of any kind and must be removed properly before doing anything else.
This can be achieved with a very powerful stripper cleaner like PrepDeck. This product can be used diluted with water at 1 part PrepDeck and 10 parts water to wood which is not excessively dirty-looking, or you can go all the way up Prepdeck treated for situations disaster, such as heavily coated with old stains, coatings, etc. may be useful to experiment using different mixing ratios for one idea is best for your situation.
Working from weak to strong. Apply PrepDeck on dry wood.
Then, a few words of caution PrepDeck Re:
• Shake well before use.
• Wear protective gloves, eye protection etc. and cover everything that you do not want to splash or damage including shrubs etc.
• The bridges can be very slippery during treatment with PrepDeck so take extreme care.
• Do not dry PrepDeck at work, keep it moist.
• On vertical surfaces, it is preferable to work from the basis minimize scratches etc.
• PrepDeck, because it is so powerful can and will darken some wood during the cleaning action. Do not worry However, you can restore the natural color of dark wood again in dealing with the Net-Trol diluted in water in parts 4 to Part 1 Net-Trol. In any event, if the darkening of the wood or not, PrepDeck remove the toughest stains old, oils etc. and bring the wood back to their original appearance.
• All wood cleaned with PrepDeck must be neutralized immediately after, while still wet with Net-Trol, diluted to about 3 or 4 prior to a final thorough rinse with clean water. You can use a garden hose or even a pressure washer at about 500psi (Low Pressure) and sure, if you use a pressure washer that you run with the grain, not against it, which could raise the wood fibers and / or even cause the collapse.
Working time PrepDeck would be about 20 to 30 minutes for tough stains, oils etc., and for less difficult cleaning jobs can be diluted in a ratio of 20 to 1 and take approximately 10 to 15 minutes of work.
NOTE: In all cases, after using PrepDeck, wood must be neutralized with Net-Trol diluted immediately, while the wood is still wet.
Never, under any circumstances, apply Textrol on any timber that has been cleaned with PrepDeck unless the timber was neutralized with Net-Trol diluted (see above) before drying.
Now, keep it newly cleaned and restored wood looking great!
Wait at least three or four good days of drying, or even a little more for your wood dry completely and then you can deal with one of your options TEXTROL as mentioned in 2 b above.
5. Was already treated wood?
If you know that your wood has never been held by you or anyone else, even if it was pressure treated, it can easily be brought back to life and still look great.
If this is not too severely stained or dirty, you get a very good result using Net-Trol
(See Clean & restore the original color above).
If the wood is stained, has all kinds of dirt and dust on it, you may need PrepDeck more powerful to get the stubborn stuff off. See 3 above (followed by NET-Trol – see point 3 above)
My advice is to try Net-Trol first (as instructed above), even if you use it almost clean. Do some simple tests using different concentrations of Net-Trol diluted with water. Obviously, the least Net-Trol you out with the help, the better it is for you!
You may need to do it twice, but will determined by your tests.
NOTE: You will not see the real result of your test until the wood dried in a reasonable then go next door and do something else while waiting.
When you're happy that you have received your wood as clean as possible, wait until he has completely dried and then you can apply two coats of TEXTROL according to 2 above.
Deck Tips
• On a new deck, it is advisable to planters, etc. in waterproof trays and if possible, lifted off the deck surface. Move them from time to time. This will avoid "ring" from forming and allow the deck to breathe evenly.
• Deck furniture such as chairs, etc. Based sunshade must have rubber or plastic cups arranged if possible.
• Bar B Que must be some form of protection on the floor of the deck to avoid severe burns or bad spots. Try a small sheet of aluminum or steel, about one square meter (available from a good DIY store or builders merchants) that can be removed after cooking. This may possibly be protected under the bridge.
• If you have heads of rusty nails, wall brackets etc. flower leaves rust stains on the wood, they can be cleaned with the Net-Trol product mentioned above.
When dried, apply a little oil directly OWATROL rusty nail or screw heads
etc. to seal up and prevent rust reform again for many years.
• When oil a terrace with TEXTROL, the work of the farthest aft to avoid having to walk on an area that you just made. Ideally, Textrol wood by treating approximately 6 plates, or whatever you a time, from one end to another.
