Top 10 Crown Molding Materials

Crown molding has changed over the centuries. Crown molding has a rich history dating back to the second millennium BC and was often found in palaces. It has evolved from the beauty of Greek forms to simple curves of the Roman era, flowers and vines of the Gothic tour to return to simple forms of the Romans to the Renaissance. Today, the moldings can be found in any type of material. So what is appropriate? Which should I use? There are so many years, it may be a little intimidating. Then take a brief look at different types of molding materials which are often prepared to leave.

Traditionally, crown molding was made from bleached wood and plaster. Wood moldings can be found and made from several hardwoods such as walnut, ash, poplar, alder, cherry, maple, mahogany and oak. Wood Moldings enriches the character of any interior as it frames your ceiling and complements your decor. There are many styles available and you can find many traditional styles, such as acanthus leaves, grape and leaf motifs and oak shell. Wood Moldings will certainly add classic detail to any room.

The downside, of wood moldings can be very expensive. Forest resources are limited. The softwood moldings require more time and care to install and finish, although less expensive than hardwoods. Reducing the size of wood moldings and swell with moisture, they can be damaged by water, it is combustible, it can be damaged by rot and insects, it can crack, there must mitering and coping skills, it may split and splinter as nailed or cut, and wood molding must be sanded and primed before the finish. These disadvantages outweigh the good points in May of wood much.

The renewed interest has grown in ornamental plaster decoration. Decorative plaster molding can be found in all styles. Ornamental plaster moldings of the Crown do not retreat, burn, warp or produce toxic fumes. Ornamental plaster can be made in a wide range of compositions to provide finished products that include a range of properties. They are versatile, safe, stable and economically. Ornamental plaster, but a great product, can be expensive to install. Although no longer required to be made up, artisans qualified are rare and it has almost become a lost art.

MDF moldings, a wood-based composite material that uses wood fibers with a synthetic resin, is another example of how a builder or decorator can accent any room or hallway. MDF is environmentally friendly and requires less preparation. It is often primed to a smooth surface which can then be painted with high quality latex or oil paint. MDF will not split when cutting, is resistant to scratches and is consistent in size and shape. However, during installation of MDF, nailing creates blemishes that requires repair, by hand, before being finished. Although it is a cheaper alternative to other materials, most professionals do not recommend its use.

Polyurethanes are found in many articles. They are used in resins, adhesives, fibers, foam padding and insulation. They come in many forms, such as rods, sheets and liquids. Polyurethanes are frequently used as an alternative to materials like wood, plastic, metal and rubber. And for good reason. Polyurethanes are resistant to wear, the conditions weather, impact, scratches and erosion. They are also more cost-effective as an alternative as well.

Other uses for polyurethanes include: fibers, seals, gaskets, condoms, hard plastic pieces, under the carpets and sealants. Items such as domed ceilings, moldings and ceiling medallions are easier to build polyurethane foam rather than wood. In fact, the polyurethane is considered the best replacement for plaster. It is low cost, lightweight and all you can do to wood, you can do to polyurethane. It is easy to install, can be used either inside or outside and is available in the widest range of products.

In its most flexible polyurethanes are found in upholstery, while the foam rigid are used inside the metal and plastic walls of most refrigerators and freezers. They are commonly used compensate for paints, varnishes and glue. Your computer mouse-pad bottom is most likely made of polyurethane foam.

Flexible molding, which is a type of polyurethane, makes it a breeze to decorate around curved walls and arched doors and windows. Flexible molding is made from a polymer compound that has been designed to bend or curve around more difficult forms. It can be bent or twisted without breaking or burst. MOLDING flexible can actually be purchased in a variety of shades, from very flexible to totally rigid.

One of the best features Flexible molding is its superiority to wood. Flexible molding can be stained, painted, or simply molding sealed usual, but without having to boot the first surface. It also resists warping, wearing, splitting, or mildewing, it is perfect for outdoor use.

Installation Decorative moldings can be made any easier with Peel and stick. Peel and stick is available in kits of parts molding plastic which are self-adhesive backs and four outside corners. Peel and stick is available for really low-tech, low cost way to decorate. None of power tools, saws, nails or hammers are needed. No mitering of corners is necessary. A person can install it in no time without any problems.

Peel and stick, however, particularly because of its low cost and low technology, lack of relief. In other words, there is no depth or thick and it will appear flat.

Styrofoam, also called expanded polystyrene. Has been used for many years by architects on buildings, houses and museums. Styrofoam crown molding is lightweight, strong and versatile, inexpensive, and adhesive to most types of paint. Other advantages and reasons for its gain in popularity is that it requires no special tools to install and in fact, may be installed in less than a day by the average homeowner. Styrofoam does not rot, crack, rot or succumb to insects. It may however melt or burn when exposed to flame and must be covered because it releases toxic fumes when burned.

Another material which is finding its way into popularity is vinyl. Moldings vinyl gives this look old plaster. While traditional plaster and wood moldings require extensive experience, advantage to using vinyl is its simplicity. It is low maintenance, does not blister or peel, swell or shrink when is used in conditions of extreme humidity, and will not rust, rot, pit or corrode and will not be attacked by insects.

Aluminum, stamped metal, crown molding with heavy-duty all aluminum construction is also available for use as decoration. It is preformed inside and outside corners eliminate miter cuts, making installation easier. It is easy to cut and install like traditional moldings. It is durable and robust. Aluminum is a huge blow to the ball. Use stamped metal for industry, factory, office space commercial, workshops, garages, kitchens and trade shows.

Styrofoam, aluminum and vinyl moldings are primarily used to for exterior decoration.

Each material has its advantages and disadvantages and each owner must weigh these options based on their own needs and desires. I hope this article will help make the task a little easier. Good design!

1. Blue-green algae, Spirulina and Chlorella: Blue-green micro-algae and its cousins spirulina and chlorella, grow on inland through the primary food world. This is visible as greenish scum on still lakes, and ponds. The Aztecs had eaten as a staple food, dried and spread on tortillas. Africans in the Sahara region also use dried spirulina with cereals and vegetables. These algae are rich in protein, carotenoids and minerals. Beware, however, claims that can provide vitamin B12 in vegetarian diets. A Russian study of the inhabitants of the province of Georgia, where many live to 100 years and some at age 150, revealed that many of these centenarians were beekeepers who often ate raw, the unprocessed honey with all its "impurities", that is, with the pollen. Bee pollen contains 22 amino acids including the eight Essentials, 27 minerals and the full range of vitamins, hormones and fatty acids. More importantly, bee pollen contains over 5,000 enzymes and coenzymes. It is the presence of enzymes, many of which have immediate detoxifying effects, which sometimes causes allergic reactions in those taking bee pollen for the first time. If this happens, start with very small amounts and slowly build up to a tablespoon or two a day. Some marks are better tolerated than others. Garlic: Garlic has antioxidant properties. Antioxidants help to salvage free radicals, particles that can damage cell membranes, interact with genetic material and possibly contribute to the aging process and the development of a number of conditions, including heart disease and cancer.

Free radicals occur naturally in the body, but environmental toxins (including ultraviolet radiation, smoking and air pollution) can also increase the number of these damaging particles. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals and may reduce or even help prevent some of the damage they cause over time.

Garlic can stimulate the production of glutathione, an amino acid is known to be a very powerful antioxidant and-toxifier and smooth muscle relaxant adenosine, also in the grass, lowering blood pressure.

Today people use garlic to help prevent atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in arteries causing blockage and possibly leading to a heart attack or stroke), reduce colds, coughs and bronchitis.

Garlic has been used to treat:
Atherosclerosis: Studies suggest that supplements of fresh garlic and garlic in May to prevent blood clots and destroy plaque. Blood clots and block the flow of blood plate and contribute to the development of atherosclerosis. Blocking blood flow to the heart, brain and legs, can cause a heart attack, stroke or peripheral vascular disease (PVD). People with PVD experience pain in the legs when they walk and move. If garlic does reduce the buildup of plaque, then stroke, heart attacks and PVD may be less likely to occur in people who eat garlic or take garlic supplements.

High cholesterol and hypertension: A number of studies have shown that garlic reduces elevated total cholesterol and lowers the blood pressure more effectively than placebo. However, the extent to which garlic is effective is low.

Diabetes: Garlic has been used as a traditional food supplement for diabetes in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Preliminary studies in rabbits, rats and limited people have shown that garlic has some ability to lower blood sugar. More research in this area is necessary. (See notes on some concerns about the use of garlic with some drugs against diabetes.)

Cold: A well-designed study of nearly 150 people supports the value of garlic for preventing and treating colds. In this study, people received either garlic supplements or placebo for 12 weeks during "cold season" (between November and February). Those who received the garlic had significantly fewer colds than those who received placebo. Moreover, when confronted with a cold, the symptoms lasted a much shorter time in those receiving garlic compared to those receiving placebo.

Cancer: Test tube and animal studies suggest that garlic May have some activity anti-cancer. From observation, population studies (which follow groups of people over time) suggest that people who have more raw or cooked garlic in their diet are less likely to have certain types of cancer, particularly cancers of the colon and stomach. Dietary garlic may also offer some protection against development of breast, prostate and larynx (throat) cancers. However, these cancers have not been widely studied as colon and stomach cancer.

TB: Many testing laboratory studies have shown that the extract Garlic inhibits the growth of different species of bacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the organism responsible for tuberculosis. Very strong concentrations of garlic extract were needed to slow the growth of M. tuberculosis in these studies, though some experts fear that these levels May be toxic to people. Although further research in people is necessary, an animal study found that oil Garlic also inhibited M. tuberculosis and minimize damage in the lungs of these animals.

Intestinal parasites: laboratory studies suggest that large amounts of fresh, raw garlic may have antiparasitic properties against the roundworm, Ascaris lumbricoides, which is the type the most common intestinal parasites. Garlic for this purpose, however, has not yet been tested in people.

Malnutrition consumption of hydrogenated oils and diabetes inhibit the conversion of omega-6 linoleic acid to GLA.

GLA-rich oils were used to treat:
Cancer
Premenstrual Syndrome
breast diseases
scleroderma
colitis
the irritable bowel syndrome

Although further studies are needed, research undertaken at the University Toronto indicates that women with breast cancer, regardless of the degree of invasion of cancer, may benefit from treatment with oil flax. Interestingly, the oil lignans may protect against the various effects of aging well.

Treat symptoms of menopause, menstrual cramps, endometriosis and female infertility: Because the hormone-balancing lignans and plant estrogens (phytoestrogens) in flaxseed oil help stabilize a woman's estrogen-progesterone, they may have beneficial effects menstrual cycle and relieve hot flashes of perimenopause and menopause. The linseed oil in May also improve the function of the uterus and thus treat fertility problems. In addition, essential fatty acids in linseed oil has been shown to block production of prostaglandins, hormonelike substances which, when released in excess amounts during menstruation, can cause heavy bleeding associated with endometriosis.

Fight against prostate problems, male infertility and impotence: THE AGE flaxseed oil may contribute to prevent swelling and inflammation of the prostate, the small gland located below the bladder in men, which tends to enlarge with age. Symptoms of such an expansion, as the urge to urinate, may decrease accordingly. AGEs also play a role in maintaining healthy sperm, which May be useful in treating male infertility, and may improve blood flow to the penis, a boon to those who suffer from impotence.
